Who says the countryside is safe?

These week I have been chased over a barbed fence ripping my shirt by some over zealous young bullocks. Then stung on my head by a honey bee whose hive was being tended by the beekeeper, all within 100yards from my house!

Mark Hayward's Music Loving Pigs

What a fantastic marketing campaign for Dingley Dell Pork, and The Broadside Boys' new record - genius, but a great story!

Suffolk farmer Mark Hayward, of Dingley Dell Pork near Wickham Market claims playing live music to his pigs makes them more relaxed, calm and content. He plays harmonica and invites the farm's 'house band' The Broadside Boys to perform. He said: "The pigs respond to your mood and music and talking to our animals is a key part of that."

The Broadside Boys have written and recorded a song for the pig farm Mr Hayward has joined up with local folk band The Broadside Boys to record The Dingley Dell Song. He said: "When the band isn't here we have music on all the time coming from the tractors or my truck. This creates a great working environment for the stockmen too as it's really important to be relaxed and calm around farm animals. I chat away to my breeding sows all the time although the piglets don't seem to want to stay still for long enough to listen."

Rule Britania

Whether you love the Monarchy or hate it, or in fact if you are indifferent to it, you cannot deny the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations brings with it a unity that is difficult to match with any other event in the UK. Businesses have prospered, communities united, a goodwill factor that brings people together from all races, creeds, denominations, ages, with just one thing in common - being British. During these times of austerity, and when the world's problems hang over our heads like a dark grey cloud, this is just the boost we need. In my book we have the Queen to thank for all of this, it is she who has held the Royal Family together, with her dedication, determination and her integrity. Three cheers for HRH The Queen, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!!

Let's Keep Britain's Roadsides Clean This Jubilee Weekend!

The Campaign to Protect Rural England is asking drivers to bin their litter this weekend and not leave it by the roadside.Bill Bryson, CPRE President, says: “Litter is becoming the default condition of the British roadside. Often these days you feel as if you are driving through a kind of large, informal linear tip. Surely we are entitled to expect better. A clean and lovely countryside shouldn’t be a surprise. It should be a right.” The experience of CPRE and CleanupUK’s thousands of litter volunteers, signed up through the Litter Action website (www.litteraction.org.uk), is that bank holidays are all too often accompanied by a flood of litter onto rural roadsides. CPRE is asking visitors this Jubilee weekend not to dump their litter, but to find a bin or take it home with them.
